Time's up on testnet. Ethos is moving to mainnet in January.

Ethos
January 8, 2025

Our Ethos testnet is now coming to a close as we prepare for our mainnet launch later this month.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far! You’ve all helped us test scale, smart contract functionality, and user experience while providing thoughtful feedback that helps us move the product forward.

We’ve completed our smart contract audits and are ready to launch on base mainnet later this month.

Testnet Stats and Info So Far

We’ve learned a lot from Testnet and are excited to see reputation-filled profiles like Dragos’... but we also saw quite a few reviews that just said ‘gm’ too 😉

After tweaking the credibility scoring algorithm, we feel confident that the product is accurately adding objectivity what credibility means (even though it’s fake eth 🙂)

We also had a TON of spam. We used this spam to tweak and get credibility scores right to ensure we’re sorting signal from noise:

  • At the end of our contributions to Testnet, we added functionality where users lose credibility score if they get downvoted for the reviews they write.
  • We believe that starting with a much smaller set of users, combined with the invitation system and bonding period, will also encourage users to invite other high-quality members.
  • We will start filtering users below a certain credibility score from showing in the feed.

What you need to know: Private testnet coming to an end

We will take a snapshot of testnet activity at some point in time between Wednesday, January 15th, 00:00:00 UTC, and Friday, January 18th, 23:59:99 UTC. That snapshot will count towards a claim for mainnet contributor XP.

Be sure to complete all of our onboarding tasks before then.

Please note: We will no longer be adding invites to users’ accounts who are not in the “Early supporter” role in Discord. This means if you didn’t have a chance to complete the “invite” task by today, you will not be able to before the snapshot.

This is our way of rewarding people committed to helping us early (before this announcement) and reducing the potential dilution of contributor XP by an influx of activity after this announcement.

Reminder the early supporter role was given to:

  • Investors
  • People who supported our team well before Ethos existed
  • Some select groups and communities we’ve partnered with

However, you will still be eligible for some contributor XP on mainnet even if you did not complete all the tasks.

** To ensure that your Contributor XP maps over to mainnet, please ensure that your Ethos profile is connected to an x.com account **

Next steps

Later in January, we’ll launch on Base mainnet with our “first 100” invites.

The first 100 invites to Ethos are various community members and investors who helped us get Ethos to where it is today. They will be even more important going forward as they represent the first 100 contributors to Ethos' trust network.

These 100 profiles that will be created at the mainnet launch will have 1 invite each to send to someone else. After that, there will be a period where no new invites for Ethos will be created outside of the Ethos team. We’ll use this time to learn from our scoring algorithm, get high-quality contributions from early members, and determine the best path to maintain a sybil-resistant network full of high-quality data.

Didn’t get in the initial 100? Don’t worry; there’s still plenty of opportunity to earn contributor XP without an Ethos profile (spoiler!). We’ll also work towards ways to help enable and empower strong community members to get an invite in other ways, through community partnerships and Ethos community recognition.

Stay tuned for the mainnet announcement + a surprise for everyone in a few weeks.

One more thing

We’ve worked hard on a second product that sits on top of Ethos, enabled by Ethos.

It will be available to everyone. Contributor XP will be used and earned there, too.

This product will arrive just after our mainnet launch.

Stay tuned.
